It was an honour to be invited to judge the Chinese Chow Club’s Breed Championship Show. I was very impressed with the large entry of 80, the quality and good health of the dogs, the sportsmanship of the exhibitors and the friendly atmosphere at this well organised super show. The Committee had been working hard to make it all happen. Thank you lovely Chow people for making me so welcome. It was a very special day.

Minor Puppy Dog (9)
1st. Parsons’ Jenrenes Mighty Enzo. Reserve Dog CC. Best Puppy Dog. Best Minor Puppy Dog. Best Puppy In Show. Reserve Best In Show. Just 7 mths, red, good size for age, handsome boy already showing such promise, short coupled with well knit frame and a stand out de luxe well presented rough double coat looks the part. Plenty of quality and breed points liked his small thick wide set ear and dark oval mischevious eye, plenty of black pigments and blue/black tongue, a delightful confident true mover retaining level topline on the move, he was irrestible today, doesn’t stop showing.
2nd. Byrne’s Akakuro Ace of Hearts. 8 mths flashy self red with masculine broad head, clean oval dark eye, complete scissor bite, good black pigments, well balanced, has correct short striding free movement, liked him a lot, unlucky to meet one who was on fire today. Best Self Red Dog.
3rd. Absalom’s Oxford Style of Mary at Wengeordy (IMP UKR). Best Cream Dog.

1st. Johnson & Moylan’s Seriel Veon Blue Velvet at Moylan (IMP RUS) blue smooth. 14 mths with lovely dark pigments, has an appealing dark oval eye and correctly wide set ears tilting slightly forward, broad muzzle, an intelligent masculine expression, devoted to his handler, well knit frame has level topline which he kept on move, sound fore and aft. Best Blue Dog.

Post Graduate Dog (9) (3 abs)
1st. Richards’ Charids Captain Scarlet. 19 mths masculine sturdy compact short coupled shaded red with well knit frame, liked his flat broad skull and muzzle, twinkling dark oval eye, ears are wide set with rounded tips tilting slightly forward giving the chow scowl here, complete scissor bite, strong jaws, blue/black tongue, breedy outline complimented by the required straight front legs and slight bend of stifle. Moving well fore and aft. Pushed RCC hard.
2nd. Godber’s Jenerenes Mighty Zack for Lechan. 2 yrs handsome black with deepest pigments and complete scissor bite which is square in firm jaw. Slightly smaller type has plenty of style and a well knit frame, lovely leonine look around his head. Moves well, pushed 1 hard. I predict these 2 will change places several times over the coming show season.
3rd. Phillips’ Fulangs Red Hot Super Bob.

1st. Mackenzie & Mackenzie-Haverson’s Browny’s Bodhi Bear at Cheuntao. Aloof well balanced cream with cheeky oval eye, small thick ears tilting slightly forward, leonine look, strong neck with slight arch, well knit frame has level topline which is retained on the move. Attentive to handler and well presented.
2nd. Godber’s Mighty Zack for Lechan (2nd in PGD)
3rd. Allen’s Santicana Cream Cracka at Clymarian (cream)

Limit Dog (5) (2 abs)
1st. Robinson’s Rendel Riff Raff at Kwaitang JW. 2 yrs bright red, medium size well knit frame, liked his large flat skull and broad muzzle with correct wide nose leathers, plenty of black pigments around eyes and flews, bluish/black tongue, small erect ears tilt slightly forward giving that chow scowl, liked his dark oval twinkling clear eyes and perfect scissor bite. Stands up well on his toes and shows, lots to like here. Considered for RCC.
2nd. Wright’s Hiswin Star Fantasy JW. 2.5 yrs lovely red boy with lots of desirable breed points, is aloof and has a great scowl. Was outpaced by 1 in this class who was on fire here.
3rd. Ashmore’s Moywan Hamal.

Open Dog (3)
1st. Robinson’s Ch Rendel Ruff N Tuff at Kwaitang. 3 yrs. Quality red with big flat skull and broad muzzle, liked his large nose and small wide set ears correctly rounded at tips tilting slightly forward giving us that lovely scowl. Shapely with well knit compact frame, good spring of rib, straight front legs, moderate bend of stifle he has a breedy outline. Topline is level and stays so on the move, tail is high set, movement is sound and short striding. Pushed RCC really hard.
2nd. Squires’ Ch Kwaitang Kristian at Kyong. Quality. 6 years super gent, gorgeous rich red double stand off coat, has aloof expressive dark oval eye, strong neck is slightly arched and topline is level. Movement has the desired skim over the ground. Lots to like here, pushed 1 hard.
3rd. Cummins & Rodgers’ Dragonsway Tom Thumb

SAOC OD (2) (1 abs)
1st. Godber’s Kwaitang Kole Porter for Lechan. Dog CC. BEST IN SHOW. BAOC. A super quality medium size black boy with well presented double stand off coat and leonine look. Liked his flat skull, broad muzzle and large nose. Twinkling dark oval eyes have a masculine alert expression. Has super breedy outline complimented by his small wide set ears that tilt slightly forward giving that desired scowl, super. Tail is happily high set naturally falling over back, he has a well knit frame, good spring of rib, straight front legs, slight turn of stifle, a promising package with lots to like, he is active and shows himself off, movement is free with a pendulum action. He’s got it all. I was delighted when the handler informed me it was his crowing third CC.

1st. Johnson & Moylan’s Seriel Veon Blue Velvet at Moylan (IMP RUS).
2nd. Absalom’s Ch Igrivaya Shalina at Russkogo Coutier at Wengeordy (IMP RUS). 5 years bitch with broad head and muzzle, dark oval eyes, shapely well knit compact frame, lots to like, moving well but was outshown by 1 who was on fire in this class.
3rd. Kavanagh’s Nicoletta Plushevie Mishki for Donkav (IMP UKR)

Veteran Dog or Bitch (5)
1st. Huskinson’s Santicana Black Orchid Over Mosspark. Best Veteran Bitch, Best Veteran in Show. 10 years beautiful mature femme lady with gleaming black double stand off coat, alert dark twinkling oval eyes belie her age, she has a well knit compact frame with good spring of rib, high set tail, moves like a 2 year old, all her own teeth in a complete scissor bite, fabulous black pigments on eyes nose flews and blue/black tongue, compact and well balanced she was showing and showing today. Impressive as it was extrememly hot.
2nd. Heims’ Miketilla Mondarin at Brunita Best Opposite sex Veteran in show. 9 ¾ yrs, flashy red dog with substantial bone and a great breedy outline complimented by his slightly arched neck and high set tail, a lovely gent who moves with aplomb, outshown by 1 today who was on a roll.
3rd. Clare’s Chinrosc Short N Sweet (fawn smooth)

Special Members Open Dog or Bitch (3)
1st. Hughes’ Chowetha Rose Gold at Xingbao. 2.5 yrs flashy bright shaded red girl with lush double stand off coat, liked her broad head with flat skull, moderate well padded broad muzzle, oval dark alert eye, small forward facing wide set ears giving that chow scowl, frame is well knit and compact, topline level which stays true on the move. Sound each way skimming the ground.
2nd. Ashmore’s Moywan Hamal.
3rd. Wheatly’s Roja Ying Su at Liononie

Minor Puppy Bitch (8)
1st. King’s Shulian Shimmering Star at Kweichow. Best Minor Puppy Bitch, best puppy Bitch. A quality and delightful 8 mths bright shaded red double stand off well presented coat, has a broad head, broad muzzle, the most appealing dark twinkling mischevious oval eye, loved her breedy silhouette taking in the view of her neck set well on shoulder with desired arch and level topline complimented by high set plushly coated tail, a great little mover happily skimming over the ground, standing up on her toes when she shows herself off. A promising prospect. Best Minor Puppy Bitch.
2nd. Wright’s Shulian Sparkling Star. So sweet loved her adorable dark alert oval eye with plenty of black pigments on nose and flews, lots to like here especially her straight front legs, slight turn of stifle and high set tail all aiding her breedy outline. A sound mover covers ground well retaining level topline, liked her a lot pushed 1 hard.
3rd. Cole’s Kibomika Movie Star

Puppy Bitch (4)
1st. Hughes’ Xingbao Midnight Magic. 11 mths quality gleaming double black stand off coat and leonine head, large skull is flat on top, broad muzzle and nose. Ears are rounded at tip tilting forward to achieve her scowl, clean scissor bite, sweet dark oval eye in femme foreface has moderate stop, she’s shapely, well knit ladylike frame, super sound mover, sure of herself and shows well.
2nd. Kavanagh’s Nicoletta Plushevie Mishki for Donkav (IMP UKR) (NAF). 8 mths quality red smooth in competitive class, aloof dark oval eye, sturdy well knit frame, well balanced and covers ground well on the move. Unlucky to meet 1 today.
3rd. Southgate’s Santicana Blue Velvet (blue)

Junior Bitch (2) (1 abs)
1st. Evans’s Sawsee Sharaz Simcha. 12 mths vivid shaded red outstanding colour, super well tended double coat, lovely femme yet leonine head, dark oval expressive eye, slightly forwarding tilting ears giving her scowl, complete scissor bite, well knit frame, acquitted herself well on the move and has showmanship.

Novice Bitch (5)
1st. Parsons’ Jenrenes Shades of Red. 3 yrs flashy lush double coated shaded red, femme foreface has moderate stop, skull is flat and she has a broad muzzle well filled under eyes which are oval and darkly cheeky. Complete scissor bite in strong jaws. Well knit frame, compact and sturdy, she stands on her toes to show, covers the ground with the desired skim. Pleased to award her 1st in one of the most competitive novice classes ever.
2nd. Wright’s Shulian Sparkling Star. 2nd in MPB.
3rd. Cole’s Kibomika Movie Star

Post Graduate Bitch (6)
1st. Finley’s Finchow Freya. 2 yrs shaded red shapely outline complimented by thick slightly arched well set neck and lush high tail. Eyes are oval and alert, ears set wide, erect and tilting forward giving a scowl in her leonine like femme head, she has a sturdy compact well knit frame along with plenty of bone and substance, she did really well to win this very competitive class where all were showing. Her free typical skimming movement and breedy outline clinched it.
2nd. Flavell’s Willchow Absolute Fabulous with Siamdel. 2.5 yrs lovely flashy double coated red, has everything going for her but was a little shy today. Despite this she is lovely and will more confidence will be at the top of the line.
3rd. Wright’s Simauta Dess Razzmatazz at Shulian (IMP RUS)

SAOC PGB (3) (1 abs)
1st. Hollies & Carr’s Janqbu Third Degree Sundry. Reserve Bitch CC. Best Opposite sex Any other colour. 20 mths gleaming femme black girl with fabulous double stand off coat and leonine ruff around head, she has such a scowl achieved by her wide set ears tilting forward over eyes which are oval and alert. Quality breedy outline complimented by broad skull, strong neck well set on shoulder with slight arch, level topline, high jaunty tail, straight front legs and slight turn of stifle. Movement is short striding with the desired pendulum like action, I love how she stands right up on her toes and shows and shows. Pushed BCC hard.
2nd. Southgate’s Santicana Blue Velvet. Just 10 mths, pretty blue baby girl, has lovely baby coat, appealing innocent oval eye, a promise of more to come, movement is sound and free each way retaining her level topline.

Limit Bitch (3) (2 abs)
1st. Parsons’ Jenrenes Making It With You. Shapely fawn with stand off double coat and leonine head, liked her alert oval eye, wide set forward tilting ears, broad head and muzzle, complete scissor bite, well knit frame contains good spring of rib, tail is high set. Retains level topline on move, sound each way.

Open Bitch (5)
1st. Cole’s Alice In Wonderland Laska Faina (IMP RUS). Bitch CC. Best Opposite Sex in show. 2 yrs mature quality girl, a stunning bright self red with femme broad head and muzzle, moderate stop, well filled under eye, large nose, dark oval twinkling eye, plenty of black pigment around eyes, nose and flews, bluish black tongue, complete scissor bite, well balanced compact frame plenty of bone and substance, wide set ears tilting forward giving her scowl. A breedy outline complimented by full neck set on shoulder with desired slight arch, level topline, high set jaunty tail, lots to like here with a promise of more to come. Movement is free each way she skims over the ground being short striding and sound. She is glamorous with ring presence. Stands up on her toes and shows and shows.
2nd. Clucas’ Hiswin Star Dreams JW. 3 yrs sweet shaded red with nice qualities, liked her femme large head and muzzle, dark alert oval eyes, complete scissor bite, liked her rough well kept double coat and well knit frame. Movement is sound and skims. Unlucky to meet 1 in uber competitive class but acquitted herself well.
3rd. Absalom’s Wengeordy Fancy Nancy

1st. Mackenzie & Mackenzie-Haverson’s Fullforge Fantastica for Cheuntao. 4 years gleaming double rough coated black quality young lady with alert twinkling dark oval eyes, flat skull broad muzzle, scissor bite, forward facing ears rounded at tips come down to give the scowl, well balanced well knit sturdy frame, she stood well on her cat like feet to show herself off, a free mover sound each way.
2nd. Huskinson’s Santicana Black Orchid Over Mosspark. 1st in Veteran and Best Veteran In Show.

Grateful thanks to the committee for the invite to judge at this really lovely show, and a huge thank you to the exhibitors that supported the classes, I had a lovely time.

CLASS A (10):
A really lovely class of very promising youngsters. All at different stages of development, but not a bad one among them.
1: Byrne's AKAKURO ACE OF HEARTS. 8 month old shaded red dog. Really very taken with him. Immediately masculine in appearance. Beautifully balanced both stactic and on the move. Excellent quality in head. Eyes well placed, size and shape correct and clean. Lovely expression. Ears set well and carried correctly. Muzzle has strength. Dentition and pigment good. Strong well arched neck of moderate lengtth into clean and well laid shoulders. Front straight and well boned. Ideal length of leg. Squarely bodied. Topline level and back short. Tail set high and carried correctly. Quarters well made and strong with correct angulation. Movement was free, easy and groundcovering with typical breed action. Happy temperament. A very lovely puppy and I will look forward to seeing him as an adult.
2: Phillips FULANG FANTOM OF THE OPERA.
Another lovely baby of just over 6 months. Shaded red male. Beautifully square in appearance. Masculine head. Really nice expression. Ears lovely for size and shape and excellent quality of leather. Mouth good and pigment good. Muzzle strong. Strong neck of good length. True front. Gd shoulders. Body short and compact. Well sprung ribs carried well back. Short and strong loin. Tailset high and carried correctly. Quarters good. Very nice feet, An abundance of coat and to his credit he managed the heat very well. Moved around the ring with an air of self importance and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. Another lovely pup with a bright future. Lost out to the more collected movement of the class winner.

CLASS B (13):
1: Kavanaghs NICOLETTA PLUSHEVIE MISHKI FOR DONKAV (IMP UKR)(NAF) Beautiful red smooth bitch. Medium size. LOvely strong but feminine head with some real quality to it. Very nice eye and expression. Eye clean and correct for size and shape. Dark and expressive. Ears very good. Leather thick and carried erect. Dention and pigment good. Nose large , dark and open. Muzzle strong. Lovely neckline into well placed powerful shoulders, Front straight. Impressive bone and substance and nice feet. Good length of foreleg. Body short and compactly made. Very well ribbed, Topline held well static and in motion. Tail set good. Tail carried correctly. Rear end strong and well muscled. Slightly eratic on the move, but very sound and covered the ground well. Beautiful rich colour, and excellent coat texture. A really tidy bitch.
2: Johnson & Moylans SERIEL VEON BLUE VELVET AT MOYLAN (IMP RUS) Blue smooth male. Loved his masculinity. Strong and well made all through. Head all male. Ears good. Dention and pigment good. Excellent proportion to muzzle. Neck muscular, well arched and ideal for length. Very good shoulder and a sound front assembly. Ideal length of foreleg with plenty of light under him. Sort and very strongly made body. Topline good. Tail thick and strong and set and carried correctly. Rear is strong with correct angulation. Excellent width of thigh. Beautiful tight feet. Moved very well albeit slightly close in front. Pushed 1st place strongly, just preferred her eye and expression. A powerful dog with an excellent temperament.

CLASS C (8) 1: Robinsons RENDELL RIFF RAFF AT KWAITANG
2 year old shaded red male approaching maturity. Masculine and very well balanced dog. Head is all male. Ears set and carried correctly. Skull flat and broad. Correct stop. Lovely width and depth to his muzzle. Flews clean. Dentition and pigment good. Head carried proudly on and excellent neck. Very good front assembly. Excellent quality on bone. beautiful tight catlike feet. Body is essentially a box. Topline strong and held very well static and in motion. Tail set and carriage correct. Real well made. In good coat. Texture excellent. Moved with a strong typical gait and covered the ground with ease. A very sound animal with excellent ring presence. Accomodating and willing disposition.
2. Hollies and Carrs JANQBU THIRD DEGREE SUNDRY. A beautiful black bitch of 20 months old. Absolutely square in appearance. Head has strength but retains femininity. Textbook eye and expression; looks you square in the eye and absolutely nails that 'scowl' perfectly. Ears very good. Muzzle excellent. Dentition and pigment very good. Neck strong, well mucled and carries her head proudly. Shoulders sound. Would perhaps like a shade more height of foreleg but she maintains balance. Feet like a cat. Excellent bone and substance. Body is square. Topline very good. Very well ribbed. Correct cut up to loin. Tail set excellent, carriage correct. Quarters well made and correctly angulated. Front movement very good, but today she wasnt quite as steady in rear movement as the class winner and paid the price. A bitch with real quality and presence, her black coat shone in the sun and her presentaion was excellent. A lovely example to go over.
